Pickering also has many pubs, restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes.

The picturesque village of Thornton le Dale is known as the gateway to the North York Moors, and is approx. 3 miles away. Thornton Show is an annual event, held in August, reckoned to be the best village agricultural show in the area. There are many attractive walks around Thornton, including a walk to the ancient church of St. Hilda at Ellerburn. Again, places to eat and drink abound.

The ancient city of York is some 35 miles away. This city alone can provide many hours of interest and activity.

Whitby Harbour across the North York Moors. It is well worth taking time to wander the old streets soaking up the atmosphere. From here there are miles of Dinosaur Coast to explore along the east edge of the North York Moors. You may find fossils from millions of years ago, or pieces of jet that was so popular in Victorian jewellery and bring them back to your lodge accommodation. Scarborough was the first seaside resort in the country, way back in the seventeenth century. Still a bustling coastal town with all the amenities expected at the seaside, Scarborough, too, is definitely worth a visit.
