Pickering is approx. 5 miles from our Log Cabin Lodges in Dalby Forest. There is a leisure centre with a swimming pool,
North York Moors Steam Railway, Pickering Castle,
Beck Isle Museum,
fishing and a wide variety of shops.
Pickering also has many pubs, restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes.
The picturesque village of Thornton le Dale is approx. 3 miles away. Thornton Show is an annual event, held in August, reckoned to be the best village agricultural show in the area. There are many attractive walks around Thornton, including a walk to the ancient church of St. Hilda at Ellerburn. Again, places to eat and drink abound.
The ancient city of York is some 35 miles away. This city alone can provide many hours of interest and activity.
Whitby, adopted home of Dracula, is 19 miles from Dalby Forest. It is well worth taking time to wander the old streets soaking up the atmosphere. From here there are miles of "Dinosaur Coast" to explore. You may find fossils from millions of years ago, or pieces of jet that was so popular in Victorian jewellery. Scarborough was the first seaside resort in the country, way back in the seventeenth century. Still a bustling coastal town with all the amenities expected at the seaside, Scarborough, too, is
definitely worth a visit.
